It is endemic in West Africa, with a peak incidence between\u00a0January and March, the height of the dry season.\r\n\r\nThe infection should be considered among the differential diagnoses in persons who present with\u00a0fever of unknown origin or other compatible symptoms within 21 days of return from an endemic region.\r\n\r\nNote that most infected persons only develop\u00a0subclinical disease. It is only around one-fifth of cases who manifest\u00a0severe multisystem infections.
